My Approach

Psychotherapy can help you explore your emotional and relational experiences in order to gain clarity and self awareness. The process is organic and often explores many themes but its essential thread is your experience of being in the world. Through empathic attunement, presence and dialogue, we can work together to make sense of this thread, as the therapeutic process begins to take shape - this looks different for every individual.

Together, we can process difficult emotion, past traumas and recurring difficulties or questions. Psychotherapy aims to work with the whole of a person - their psyche, body, memory, energy. My integrative approach draws on many theoretical frameworks and I adapt my practice to work with each client holistically. As it can sometimes be difficult to verbalise experiences and emotions, particularly if they stem from a place where trauma has occurred, I work creatively with clients to aid self-expression. This may include using art materials, breathwork and movement in sessions.

I work with each person in a way that respects who they are and their circumstances in life, being mindful of their values and beliefs. As this work can be deep and open ended, it is important to find a therapist that is the right fit for you. Our initial session will be used to explore our potential connection and establish an ongoing contract between us.

In addition to Psychotherapy for all issues, I also offer trauma-focused work in the form of individual psychotherapy, bodywork practice TRE (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises) & groupwork. As I complete TRE Provider certification, I'm offering TRE free of charge, online or in person. For more info please see: https://www.joannasolazzo.com/trauma

About Me

As an accredited Psychotherapist, I work collaboratively to establish a strong therapeutic relationship in which you can feel safe to freely express yourself. In building awareness of body and mind, we can work together to process your experiences and emotions in a grounded and safe space. As you deepen your understanding of self, you may start to let go of old patterns, restore a sense of balance and begin to build foundations for growth.

My interest in human nature started to develop at University, initially grounded in Sociology, Politics & Philosophy. Alongside my studies, I began my career supporting vulnerable people, often with complex needs. This was most notably in the fields of Mental Health, Homelessness and Substance Misuse but often included Trauma, Abuse and Sexual & Domestic Violence. During these fifteen years I worked with adults, young people and children affected by these events.

My previous work experience as a Sexual Trauma Counsellor (with adults) and School Counsellor (with ages 5 - 18) provided me with rich learning experiences in which I developed my intuition and skills as a Psychotherapist. Whilst I now solely work with adults, my experience working with children and young people over the years has given me first-hand insight into Developmental Psychology and the implications of early relational life for later adulthood. Through my various roles I’ve developed a trauma-informed approach that allows this work to be carried out with sensitivity and safety.
